German Man Attacks Thai Dentists in Phuket Spree
Police are searching for a German man with mental health issues after a series of violent attacks on Thai dentists.
Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand—A wave of fear is gripping the dental community in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, as a 41-year-old German national continues a disturbing pattern of violent attacks targeting dentists. The Nakhon Ratchasima Dental Society has urgently appealed to local police, demanding the immediate arrest of the man following a series of assaults and property damage at various dental clinics across Muang district. Dentists are increasingly apprehensive, with some fearing for their lives.
The escalating situation began in November 2024 with an incident at a clinic on Mitraparp Highway. Security footage captured the suspect’s unsettling behavior. After an initial consultation, the man, appearing agitated, stormed back to the second floor, punched through a surgery door, and assaulted the female dentist inside. The attack, which included biting the dentist’s lips and violently striking her head against a wall, left the victim traumatized and unable to return to work. Despite a police report filed at the time, no significant action was taken, allowing the assailant to continue his reign of terror.
The most recent incident occurred last Friday evening at a dental clinic in a Muang district shopping mall. The suspect, identified as the same German national, forced his way into a female dentist’s surgery and began shouting, causing her to flee in terror. This latest attack highlights the growing concern among local dentists, who now face not only physical threats but also significant emotional distress. The man’s aggressive behavior extends beyond physical assaults, encompassing property damage and menacing threats delivered in person and via social media.
The Nakhon Ratchasima Dental Society, led by spokesperson Wiwat Chatwongwan, has issued warnings to dental clinics throughout the region, urging vigilance and caution. Mr. Chatwongwan, accompanied by several dentists who have been victims of the attacks, filed an official complaint with the Muang Nakhon Ratchasima police station on Monday. The society demands swift action to apprehend the individual and prevent further incidents.
According to Mr. Chatwongwan, the suspect lives with his Thai wife in tambon Don Chompu, Non Sung district. His wife, as quoted by Mr. Chatwongwan, revealed that her husband suffers from mental health issues, lost his job in Germany before arriving in Thailand, and is currently receiving no treatment. She also disclosed his cannabis use. This information adds another layer of complexity to an already disturbing situation, raising concerns about the potential link between mental health, substance use, and violent behavior.
The Dental Society’s plea to the authorities goes beyond simply arresting the man. They advocate for appropriate intervention, whether mandatory treatment or confinement, to ensure community safety and provide the individual with necessary care. “He should be getting proper treatment, or be confined, so that he cannot disturb society any more,” stated Mr. Chatwongwan, emphasizing the urgent need for a solution addressing both public safety and the suspect’s well-being. As the situation remains unresolved, the dental community in Nakhon Ratchasima continues to live under a shadow of fear, hoping for swift and effective action to restore safety and tranquility to their profession.
