Pathum Thani Road Widening: Bangkok Traffic Now Flows Smoother
The 10.4-kilometer expansion, costing 561 million baht, includes a new bridge and improved safety features.
Pathum Thani, Thailand—A significant infrastructure project aimed at decongesting a vital artery north of Bangkok is complete. The Department of Rural Roads has widened a 10.4-kilometer stretch of Lam Luk Ka Road (Rural Road 3004) at Klong 7 in Pathum Thani, transforming it from a bottleneck into a four-lane thoroughfare. This improvement promises to significantly enhance traffic flow, bolster logistics, and facilitate future urban growth in the region.
Spearheaded by the Department of Rural Roads and championed by Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, the project provides welcome relief to commuters who previously endured heavy congestion on this crucial route. With over 18,000 vehicles traversing the road daily, including numerous trucks using it as a shortcut between Road No. 3005 (Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok) and Road No. 3312 (Lam Luk Ka Road), the previous two-lane configuration proved inadequate. Significant delays and hampered movement of goods and people resulted.
The newly expanded road, constructed at a cost of 561 million baht, features a durable asphalt concrete surface. Intersections are reinforced with concrete pavements for increased longevity and resilience. Prioritizing safety and pedestrian access, the project includes a central median strip, pedestrian sidewalks, a comprehensive drainage system, and modern street lighting. CCTV cameras enhance security for all road users.
Further demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive infrastructure development, the project included a concrete bridge spanning the Rangsit Prayurasakdi Canal, eliminating a potential bottleneck and improving traffic flow. Four strategically placed footbridges ensure safe pedestrian crossings, enhancing accessibility and safety.
Montri Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, confirmed the road’s opening to the public. He highlighted the project’s multifaceted benefits, emphasizing reduced travel times and improved road safety. This infrastructure enhancement promises a more efficient and secure transportation experience for all users.
The completed Lam Luk Ka Road widening project represents a significant investment in Pathum Thani’s transportation infrastructure, addressing the need for improved traffic flow and connectivity. Its impact extends beyond immediate traffic relief, contributing to regional economic development and facilitating future urban expansion through a more efficient transportation network. The improved infrastructure is also expected to attract businesses and investment, further bolstering economic growth and prosperity.
