Nonthaburi Pit Bull Mauls Girl; Safety Concerns Raised
A peaceful Thursday evening in Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district was shattered by a terrifying incident: a seven-year-old pit bull escaped its enclosure and savagely attacked a six-year-old girl in her home. The incident, which occurred around 8 p. m. on February 27, 2025, left the young victim with severe bite wounds, primarily to her head, sparking renewed concerns about the safety of powerful dog breeds in residential areas.
The attack unfolded in a single-story house lacking a perimeter fence, leaving the child vulnerable to the unleashed canine. First responders from the Buapetch rescue team described a chilling scene: bloodstains marred the interior, and the girl’s belongings lay scattered, testament to the sudden and violent nature of the attack. The girl’s father, sister, and grandmother were present, adding to the trauma.
Quick-thinking neighbors were instrumental in saving the girl’s life. A 48-year-old man, alerted by the child’s cries, courageously entered the house and confronted the aggressive pit bull. Using a wooden stick, he struck the dog’s head, forcing it to release its grip. Another neighbor, a 27-year-old, described arriving to find the dog dragging the girl from her bed—a horrifying image underscoring the severity of the situation.
The pit bull, named Sola, belonged to 54-year-old Ms. Montien, a resident of a house behind the victim’s. According to Ms. Montien, Sola typically remained indoors. However, on that night, a neighbor inadvertently left a door unlocked, allowing the dog to escape. Ms. Montien insisted that Sola, despite being seven years old, had no history of aggression and was usually confined to a cage or allowed to roam freely within her house. This incident, therefore, appears to be an aberration, raising questions about what triggered such a violent outburst.
Following the attack, the young victim was rushed to Pak Kret Hospital 2, where she remained under close observation. Ms. Montien, understandably distraught, expressed remorse and accepted full responsibility for Sola’s actions. Her brother visited the hospitalized girl and her family, presumably to offer apologies and support. The girl’s family filed a complaint with the Pak Kret police, initiating a potential legal battle.
