Oman Interpol Investigating Missing Thai Woman: Husband Confessed
Interpol assists Thai and Omani authorities investigating a suspected murder, following a husband’s alleged confession and reports of the victim’s cremation.
BANGKOK—A Thai woman, known only as «Mind,» has disappeared in Oman, prompting a joint investigation by Thai and Omani authorities, with the assistance of Interpol. Mind’s family fears she was murdered by her Bangladeshi husband, following disturbing reports of severe physical abuse and an alleged confession to Omani police.
The case came to light after a three-month silence, culminating in a February 24, 2025 meeting between Mind’s family, aided by prominent women’s rights advocate Pavena Hongsakul, and Police Major General Suraphan Thaipraser of the Royal Thai Police Foreign Affairs Division.
A friend in Oman reported that Mind was allegedly murdered by her husband, her body hidden in a sofa before being removed and cremated in the mountains near Salalah, Oman. This account aligns with the husband’s prior arrest for drug offenses and his alleged confession to Omani authorities following interrogation in Salalah.
The severity of the situation led Hongsakul, Chairwoman of the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, to request immediate international collaboration. She urged Thai Interpol to work with their Omani counterparts to verify the information, potentially locate and identify any remains using DNA testing, and apprehend the perpetrators. This, she emphasized, is crucial for bringing closure to Mind’s grieving family. Hongsakul intends to coordinate efforts between Thai and Omani authorities, and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure a thorough investigation.
Adding to the tragedy, Mind was the primary financial supporter of her family. Her father, heartbroken, described her as the lifeline for her blind mother and 10-year-old nephew with special needs. He recalled their last conversation in May 2024, where Mind reassured him of her continued financial support. Now, he desperately pleads for authorities to discover the truth and, if his daughter is deceased, repatriate her remains to Thailand for burial.
Police Colonel Sila Tantrakul of the Interpol Division confirmed Interpol’s involvement, leveraging its 190-member country network to coordinate with Omani authorities. While acknowledging case confidentiality protocols, he assured the family that all resources would be deployed. Although a precise timeline is uncertain, Colonel Tantrakul promised a thorough and persistent investigation.
Hongsakul expressed confidence in Thai Interpol, citing past successes, including the swift rescue of a Thai woman exploited in an egg-selling scheme in Georgia. She emphasized the importance of justice and dignity for vulnerable individuals abroad. «A woman’s location should not diminish her right to justice,» she stated. «We trust that the Omani police will collaborate effectively with Thai Interpol to bring clarity to Mind’s fate as quickly as possible.»
The case awaits international cooperation, leaving Mind’s family hoping for truth and justice.
